Hi. I need to know a few things that will help me with programming.

    On off
    Small whole numbers
    Very large whole numbers
    Negative numbers
    Simple fractions
    Very small fractions

Im not sure how these things are stored in a system? I know the numbers can be stored as integers and bytes etc but what about the fractions, characters and money and on/off??

In what ways could I use these in a system?

Also are there any limits or potential problems with using these?

Data types depend on the language you are using. For example in Visual Basic:

    On off = boolean
Small whole numbers - short integer (max 32,768)
Very large whole numbers - long integer (max 18,446,744,073,709,551,615)
Negative numbers - just change the sign
Simple fractions - you would use decimals to express fractions
    Very small fractions as above
    Characters - strings
    Money - single

For more info see: Data Type Summary (Visual Basic)

In PHP you do not define datatypes in the same way.

C,C++ and Java datatypes are similar to VB.
decimal variables can be singles - 8 digits after decimal, or doubles - 16 digits after decimals
