    Hi, everyone.

A lot of my friends have recommended trying out online gigs from ODesk. Have you also tried it?

Some of my friends have recommended it as well.
I might give it a try some time in the future.
You should try it too since it's highly recommended anyway.

It's worth it but it takes a while to build a good reputation, and you have to take a lot of tests and some of them are a little bit unusual. When you have your account set up, you would probably need to ask for the lowest price per hour to start and get clients so you could get some feedback. It also helps to start with small tasks at the start like transcription and data entry to help you get acquainted with the process and also because those are a little easier to land. So even if they aren't related to your specialty it can help with getting feedback while you take more tests and build on your actual portfolio.

Yeah I have done a few easy jobs on oDesk, but I don't really use it because there is just too much competition. Even for minor jobs there are like 30+ volunteers at times, and you simply can't underbid some desperate asian workers with your $/hour rate :) Or at least it wouldn't worth it on your part. That is why I mostly do jobs which has a fixed payment and completion date, that way I know what to expect. As someone mentioned above, it is hard to build trust on oDesk. I think its worth to do your first few jobs for dirt cheap or even for free just to build your portfolio. It gets a lot easier to get better paying jobs afterwards.

The way I manage to get a leg up on the competition on not only ODesk, but other freelancing sites, is look for gigs that need to be done immediately, whether that is article writing, backlink building, or even simple web design, and find a corresponding worker on Fiverr. In my appeal on ODesk, I'll usually tell the person offering the task that I can have best quality done for them in the shortest period of time, along with any bonuses the Fiverr gig offers, and 7/10 times, I'll be given the task even on a brand new account.

Essentially, this is Fiverr reselling. I wouldn't try to go ahead and get abreast of the massive competition when you are the one hoping do the job, if I were you.

I'm a member of Odesk but I haven't tried to bid on projects. Though it seems a very good place to land a work for freelancers but I think it's difficult to win a project since there are a lot of experts that also bids for the job so I can say it's hard. But if you are lucky enough to win some projects then you can earn good money there.

I've found some excellent plugin programmers on Odesk. I also found some great graphics designers there as well, so I can imagine that what people are saying about competition being tough, is probably very true. If you can find a way to stand out from the crowd, you'll most likely be very successful.

I have not used oDesk and probabky won't - i probably need to go to school and take a Web Development course. it could be useful if I were going to school to do easy jobs on oDesk. It does look like a good site, though.

I have signed up for O desk, but have yet to place a bid for a job. As others have said, there is a lot of competition. Either there are people who are willing to do a job for almost no pay, or they have been on the site so long that they have an impressive resume. It's a little intimidating. I will post a reply if I win a bid there.

I am currently doing gigs on Odesk. They pay on time and there is no problem for your payment. The thing is you have to build your profile and get good feedback in order for more clients to hire you. You can basically bid on jobs which i participate in most of the time. but despite everything its a great place to start and if things go well enough for you, its possible you can land a huge contract.

I have tried oDesk in the past, but it didn't appeal much to me. However, I was more into other money making methods back then. Now that I'm into freelancing more, I feel like I should give it another shot and check it out once more. I've heard a lot of success stories, so it'll probably be worth a peek!

I've tried oDesk because I heard that it's good. I've been placing bids for the past three months with no luck at all. Somehow someone always seems to outbid me no matter how low I go. The only gigs I've actually ever received are links to ptc sites and such gigs are considered illegal on oDesk. It doesn't hurt to keep bidding if you get good responses.

I haven't had any of friends recommend Odesk to me, but I do have a few friends that make pretty good money by using it in their free time. I've heard that it has thousands of freelance jobs that you can commit to completing, so atleast there will always be a job that you can do. I did do some further research of the site, and so far I'm seeing nothing except for good reviews.

There is far too much competition on job bidding websites. Instead you should make your own blog, present what you are good at and make the service available for customers there. I plead that you do not waste any more of your valuable time bidding on cheap projects, when you could be putting your time to good use.
