Nominet UK the body responsible for .uk domain name space has issued a consultation document (nominet.org.uk/policy/consultations/netuk/)asking its member and other 'stake holders' to comment on the possibilities of changing the use of the .net.uk domain name extension which at present is strictly issued to Internet Service Providers only, there is also quite a number paper work Internet Service Providers service providers need to provide before the an be issued with a .net.uk domains. The awkward requirement make most Internet Service Providers shun this domain extension in favour of easier to register domain extension .co.uk . I predict overwhelming majority of members and stake holders will favour extending the use of .net.uk to non Internet Service Providers and the silly prerequisite for registering the domain should also be done away with to me .net.uk more popular.
