A PUB attacker who bit off part of an ex-serviceman’s ear, leaving the two of them drenched in blood, has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.
Anthony Walls fought with Christopher McLoughlin at the Black Swan pub in Guisborough after violence flared in the beer garden with a crowd of about 20 spectators.
Walls, 31, took hold of Mr McLoughlin and tried to bite his cheek, and the men fell to the floor in the early hours of September 12 last year.
As they grappled, 29-year-old Mr McLoughlin felt blows to his back from bottles or glasses from an unknown assailant.
As he released his grip on Walls and turned to see who was bottling him, Walls bit off the top and side of his right ear, Teesside Crown Court heard.
The blood-covered pair were then separated by door staff, said prosecutor Paul Newcombe yesterday.
The court was told that Mr McLoughlin, described as a “robust” man, did not want the assault reported but was left disfigured by the attack.
The piece of ear could not be re-attached and Mr McLoughlin is to have plastic surgery and skin grafts, with operations and treatment continuing over several years.
He had a gash near his temple and three stab or glass wounds to his left shoulder or back.
