How to get blog traffic

Increasing traffic to your blog is good on so many levels. If it is a personal blog then it is nice to know that people want to read you. If it is a company blog it is important to get the information out there and also help with the SEO on the site. In this article I am looking at some of the main ways you can increase the amount of traffic to your blog.

Facebook is difficult to manage when promoting your blog. If your blog isn't about what the 'bright young things' are trending then you may find it difficult to use Facebook effectively. I wouldn't recommend advertising your blog on Facebook, but certainly create a separate page for it and then promote this to your existing friends and colleagues.

Similarly Twitter is also fairly limited in its range. Unless, that is, you can latch onto a current #tag. When you post about your blog you can then post to the #tag and increase your audience dramatically. So check the current trends and tailor your writing to meet them.

A blog is for sharing. So identify your audience, and then join communities where your audience is likely to be active. You will have to be active in these communities as well, so be prepared to put some work in here.

When writing for businesses, include links to what you are mentioning on other parts of the site, or other sites. Having a guest blogger is useful as it will increase inbound links to the site. Look at the tags on the site, make sure they are current, and use them in your blogs. If a tag is mentioned in content, then a spider is more likely to pay attention.

By using linking patterns and user engagement metrics, search engines are becoming much better at working out if the information on your blog is credible. Having a keyword stuffed blog does not make for good reading and, if people link to your blog and then bounce straight out, the search engines will realise something is wrong.

According to Wikipedia, backlinks and incoming links, are links into your website from an external website. The number of backlinks your site has is one of the many measures a search engine uses to rank your site. Using Link Farms to generate these links, however, is not a good strategy and could end up with your blog being blacklisted.

Of course you can always pay someone else to engineer your SEO or improve the hit-rate of your blog. There are companies that specialise in Facebook and other Social Network marketing. Companies that will email prospective readers and use other tools to increase the visibility of your blog.

While these are all good, they do have costs attached to them. I would suggest that if your products depend on people visiting your site, then paying someone at least for your SEO is a good start. However you go about generating interest in your blog, one thing remains constant: if you write well and write about interesting things, then people will find you and your content anyway.

I'd say one of the best ways is to do guest posts for other people's blog. There are a ton of sites a nd mailing lists to sign up for this, some better than others. of course. You ca find blogs that are similar in topic to yours, and ask (nicely!) if you can guest post. Alternatively, you can ask someone to write a gust post for your blog. Either way, the other person will link to your blog and increase your visitor count.

I've tried some of the legit groups to increase blog visitation, but never has much luck. I did have a lot o luck with Triber, however. Its a good way to increase visitation and awareness about your blog.

Good tips. As far as Facebook is concerned, having a Facebook fan page for your blog is a good idea. You can put links on the blog on the side bar as well as in the posts to encourage people to "like" your Facebook page.

If you have some money to spend you might want to consider Facebook ads to grow the number of fans of your page. You can set a daily budget as low as $5 a day. You have a lot of flexibility to change the amount you're spending as well as the demographics that you're targeting with the ads. You can also modify or suspend the campaign at any time.

I haven't used the ads but I have friends who have; they have had great results. The advantage is that the "likes" you are getting are from people genuinely interested in your page. It's much better than purchasing "likes" on Fiverr or other such places.

I know you’ve heard this a million times that “Content is King”. When new bloggers start creating their content for the first time, their blog looks small and they have a less number of subjects to write about. But as time goes on and they start capitalizing on the subjects, gather some great content their blog begins to grow.

I second with using Facebook to help promote your blog. It is probably the number 1 social network site, and if you create some killer content, you can make your post go viral sending thousands of visitors to your site. Along with Facebook I would also you Youtube, Pinterest, Twitter, and any other form of spreading your content on the web.

I totally agree with the strategy of using social media sites to promote the blog site or website. I think most traffic will be gained from such places...and it will help increase in revenue if one is wanting to earn from their blog...

Article marketing has been around since the net began and one of the tested ways to generate traffic to your blogs. Write as many articles on your niche or you can hire other writers. The more articles you can produce the better. Then start submitting them to article directories.

I agree with you on the Twitter front. I definitely think that Twitter is one of the most effective marketing tools since it's so easy to acquire followers and get your point across to so many people at once using hashtags and what not. It's definitely a good networking investment when trying to generate traffic.

To increase traffic on your blog, promote it by:
    1. Targeting content towards an audience most likely to share it.
    2. Commenting on others blogs (they might just return the favor and more traffic might be directed to your blog).
    3. Guest blogging (invite people who write on similar topics to guest blog for you and request vice versa).
    4. Actively participating in Forum Posting.
    5. Promoting your blog on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ (creating a fan page for your blog on Facebook is a good option).

One hand washes the other, as they say. If you stop by and show some love to a blogger, he might just return the favor and chek out yours as well. Also, do not forget Facebook and Twitter marketing.

If you want to popularize your blog, and divert huge traffic towards it, then you need to be tricky, and try using it for reciprocal linking. Besides this, try doing blog commenting with relevant keywords, as it helps you to place your link on high PR web pages.
