Inbound links or commonly known as “backlinks” are the links pointing to your site and search engines like Google like it when you have thousands of links pointing to your site but sometimes Google penalizes you for it too if you have poor quality and irrelevant backlinks pointing to your site.

Inbound links send visitors to your web site. Generally, this is seen as a good thing. Many sites go to great lengths to achieve as much of this "free" advertising as possible, although a few sites are very particular about where the links are pointing

When your website is linked to by another website it is called an inbound link. When you link to another website, it is called an outbound link. Many search engines use the number of inbound links as one metric for how popular a website is. But the wrong kind of inbound links, or inbound links obtained using "blackhat" strategies can lower page rank or even cause a website to be delisted from search engines.
