Which OS do you prefer on your servers and why?
Easier to manage and a wider variety of options.
I prefer Windows for gaming, programming, and experimenting with web design and Linux for any general use.
I would say linux for programming and windows for gaming, surfing, general use..
I'm more of a Windows person, but have to use Linux if I am using VMware as the underlying infrastructure is ESXi.
I also prefer my websites to run on Apache
I prefer Linux (Debian) over Windows on a server.
Linux all day
+1 for Linux. Easy to use.
Love to use linux for web hosting purpose.
i think you should use Linux
For Linux is the best choice for sever.
Windows For browsing or running software, downloading, etc.
Linux for web hosting or making a tutorial on linux.
Agree completely here. All my C/C++ programming thus far has been on a Linux box. Windows libraries are very, very nasty to deal with in C++.
Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on the package managers in Linux? Do you think they do an adequate job of cross-platform software compatibility?
I will go for Linux, it is easier to manage and provides many option to modify source code of applications as per our need.
I have heard that Linux is best for web hosting but I am just not at all familiar with it and my basic lack of intrigue into the whole things just means that I stick with Windows. Maybe someday when I have the time I will look more into using Linux but for now my needs are met so I cannot complain. i guess maybe it is just easier to stick to what you know.
not really a fan of linux. been using windows eversince my 8th grade and love it. i found ios also better than linux.
For desktop Windows, but for server it has to be Linux for me.
I did load up a VPS with Vultr for a few hours with Windows OS and didn't really like it.
I have used Linux on a desktop before, I found it can bring old PC back to life and not be as bogged down as with Windows on it.
Its best and secure than any other OS. So, i will suggest go for linux.
Linux free and secure.
I go with linux...
